My Thoughts on the iPad

I think the iPad is a luxury. May be a luxary that I desire, but I am more interested in upgrading our iPhones this year before purchasing one. Since I can only afford so much at one time, I may be able to hold out for v2.

If I were to purchase an iPad, I would probably go with wifi only. I have an iPhone and most places I would use this i would have wifi.

Possible use cases for me:

1. With keyboard, good note taking device for meetings, conferences, etc. Think netbook type device. I do all of my notes electronic and with Evernote so I think it fits well for this use.

Shrop's Favorite iPhone Apps

logo.gifOkay, I finally got around to listing the iPhone apps I use a lot on iusethis.com. A few aren't on the site and I didn't have time to add them as new apps.

Check out my list here: http://iphone.iusethis.com/user/shrop

Steve Jobs On Being Meaningful: What Can The Church Learn?

In the short video below, Steve Jobs talks about marketing a company's core values so that the company is meaningful. Keep the message simple and don't let mixed messages confuse customers about what your company is really about.

Does your church market its core values well? Do web site visitors, fist time attenders and even members/regular attenders get what your church is about? If not, you may want to rethink how you market your church's core values.

Refund for NetShare

I feel like one of the lucky US iTunes users who was able to quickly purchase the application NetShare while it was available in iTunes for a few hours two weeks ago. NetShare allows you to surf the web on a wireless computer/laptop using your iPhone's Internet connection.

Setup Local Apache/MySQL/PHP Dev Environment in OS X Leopard

images.jpeg

I have used MAMP for a long time, but I recently decided to build a development environment on my MacBook Pro to mirror my test and production servers. MAMP uses Apache 2.0 and I really wanted to run Apache 2.2. I also needed custom PHP for use with Oracle databases. I just want

ed to share the documentation to setup my development environment. Feel free to comment and let me know if you have any improvements.

Apple sells 1 million iPhones - Other iPhone thoughts from Shrop

Other thoughts about my 3G iPhone adventures since Friday:

  • Got in line around 6:40 am Friday for the 3G iPhone purchase. Walked out the door with a working 3G iPhone around 10:30am and a non activated 1st gen iPhone for my Wife. Wasn't able to activate her phone at home till around 4pm due to the iTunes activation issues. I then restored her iPhone to the official 2.0 firmware without restoring data so she had a fresh phone to start. She loves it BTW!

WWDC Keynote in 60 Seconds

The video below would have saved me a ton of time yesterday! Thanks to www.appleiphoneschool.com for the news on this video.

WWDC Keynote Thoughts

Apple Logo
I was jazzed about the WWDC Keynote before it started yesterday. I was all setup with twitter, ichat, plurk, macrumors, engadget, ustream audio, etc. The live ustream audio feed was very helpful. Thanks to my friends for pointing me to that link. I will catch the full video tonight on my AppleTV so I can get the full experience.
